I Would Like to Purchase a Bar Code Scanner. Should I Purchase a Laser, a CCD, or a Wand? : ZBA F A Q

Q: I Would Like to Purchase a Bar Code Scanner. Should I Purchase a Laser, a CCD, or a Wand?

Generally speaking, the application dictates which scanning
technology is best. Wand scanners are the most economical,
but typically are the most difficult of the three to use. Wands
should not be used on curved and uneven surfaces. CCD
scanners are typically the easiest to use. They are also
designed with no moving parts (improved reliability) and use
an LED light source (instead of hazardous laser light). CCD
scanners are now designed with long range scanning
capability so their application performance is often equal to or
better than handheld laser scanners. Laser scanners are
preferred when the height of the barcode label is very small
(e.g. less than inch).
