Q: How Can I Verify That My ZBA Scanner Works?

For a keyboard wedge interface or USB/keyboard
emulation interface scanner:

a. Get into any simple text editor. Notepad is
recommended in the Windows environment. (Locate it
through Start/all programs/Accessories/Notepad)

b. Scan a valid sample bar code (use your ZBA
scanner box it should have a barcoded part no. and serial
number). The scanner should beep once and the correct data
should be displayed on Notepad screen.


For an RS-232 serial interface scanner:
a. Get into HyperTerminal in the Windows environment.
(Locate it through Start/all
programs/accessories/communications/HyperTerminal)

b. Set up Hyper Terminal to communicate at 9600, none, 8,
1, Xon/Xoff through the COM port where the scanner is
connected

c. Scan a valid sample bar code. The scanner should beep
once and the correct barcode data should be displayed on the
Hyper Terminal Screen
